Smart Defrag 4

Fragmentation of Data – pieces of certain size of data being distributed on different part of HDD instead of sequentially present or in one place. With Software, Games, App demanding high resources and faster HDD access, a HDD having fragmented Data is a real problem, now more than ever.

I remember those XP days and shitty (please don’t mind my language) Windows Defragmenter. It was so slow that I would have re-installed XP 5 times over with all basic and essential software. With Windows Vista defragmentation improved but still it is slow. I don’t think anyone uses the default Windows Defragmenter anymore, I don’t. In past I have used a few other third party Defragmenter but Smart Defrag from IObit won me over even with their initial release and I have stuck with them.

Here is a review of my favorite Defragmenter.

Review

Smart Defrag 4, a very light, and stable disk defragment tool. It is designed for maximum hard drive performance. There is option for Boot Time Disk Defrag to get faster PC start-up by intelligently streamlining your files based on using frequency, thus accelerating disk speed for faster data access. Now a SSD Defrag has been added too which will significantly improve the access speed of SSDs and expand its life.

The Analyzing and Defragmenting are faster than before. And with new cool looks, it feels good. After analyzing a disk you will advise what to do. There are options to Defrag Only, Defrag and Fast Optimize, Defrag and Fully Optimize & Defrag and Prioritize Files (slow). Most of the times you will only get the first 2 Options. There is now support for Junk files cleanup. When you click to Defrag by any of the options, you are promoted to clean junk files. If you do not use some other utilities to clean junk files, you should let Smart Defrag do it for better Defragmention. You can also disable the prompt for junk clean-up or make it remember you choice. I leave it as it and don’t mind the pop-up as at different time, I have different needs.

There is option for Game Defrag. I have not used it myself (haven’t played any game after my SSD was a goner).  Using this option users can manually add the games to the Smart Defrag 4 to be defragged separately from the complete storage drive defrag, for top gaming performance.

Smart Defrag has been such a nice option that I haven’t looked at anything new so can’t compare with others now. It is cool and fast. Works well with all size of HDD. This a must have if you HDD is slowing down.
